JANUARY 5, 2023 - The campaign has been underway for over three years to build a sculpture in tribute to Leonard Nimoy at the Museum of Science in Boston’s West End, where Nimoy grew up. The sculpture has officially been in development since March 2021 and had only reached about seven percent of its campaign goal, when a substantial donation was announced.

Universe Today has shared the news that Rich Miner, co-founder of Android, will be making a six-figure donation to the museum for the Nimoy sculpture. Nimoy’s daughter, Julie Nimoy, broke the news on Twitter, and her husband, David Knight, with whom she has been working on the campaign, said, “We were really starting to wonder, is this going to turn into a reality? To our incredible delight, somebody from the high-tech world really embraced it.”

Miner was moved by his upbringing in Boston and by the Star Trek connection. He said, “Star Trek and Spock nurtured my interest in science and technology, and inspired aspects of my startups...."

The monument will be a stainless-steel likeness of the Vulcan salute, designed by artist Tom Stocker and executed by sculptor David Phillips.
