Captain Picard and Captain Pike 14” collectible busts now available to pre-order

Chronicle Collectibles

Prop and replica company Chronicle Collectibles has recently announced half-scale busts of two of Starfleet’s most decorated captains. The busts of Captains Pike and Picard are available to pre-order now, and StarTrek.com spoke to Chronicle’s Creative Director, Jared Chapman, about how the busts came to be.

The officially-licensed busts are half-scale, meaning they stand about 14” tall. They feature a hand-painted faux-bronze finish and weigh about 6 pounds each. Chapman says they were going for an in-universe feel with the design. “We wanted to take an in-world approach to these pieces, envisioning a future museum or library where the heroes of Starfleet would be on display,” he said. “It’s important to us that collectors feel like they are displaying a piece of the Star Trek universe.”

As for the choice of subjects? Chapman said that Picard’s wisdom and confidence as a leader, and Pike’s poise and tenacity were part of the reasons they were chosen. “Both Captains uphold the very best of the Federation and Starfleet,” he said.

Chapman also clarified the choice of Anson Mount’s likeness for Captain Pike. After all, Pike has been portrayed by four actors over the years, so what makes Mount’s portrayal special? Chapman said, “Pike is a fascinating character because we all know his eventual fate. As of the latest season of Star Trek: Discovery, he knows that fate, too. [...] Anson Mount’s portrayal of a character knowing his destiny, embracing it and continuing on with courage and determination was beautiful, and wholly convincing, and we felt it was worth being memorialized.” It probably helps that Mount’s Captain Pike is so popular that nearly 30,000 fans have signed a Change.org petition urging CBS to make a dedicated Captain Pike series.

The Captain Pike and Captain Picard busts are available to pre-order on Chronicle Collectibles’ website now for $149.99 each. They are expected to ship in late 2020.
