CBS All Access added a slew of new shows and episodes this week

CBS All Access has just had a major expansion. Following on from last month’s story where ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish announced plans to turn the streaming service into a streaming super-service, the first phase of the plan is now complete.

Yesterday, ViacomCBS announced the addition of more than 3,500 new episodes of television to CBS All Access, from across their brand portfolio. They also announced plans for a brand new original Spongebob Squarepants spinoff show called Kamp Koral, due to premiere in 2021.

In addition to the new content, CBS All Access also started rolling out improvements to the user interface across all platforms, including better personalization and discovery, and better categorization in the form of brand hubs, so it’s easier to browse by brand.

Marc DeBevoise, Chief Digital Officer for ViacomCBS and Chief Executive Officer for ViacomCBS Digital, said of the expansion, “Today marks the beginning of an exciting evolution of CBS All Access into the subscription streaming home for ViacomCBS and a preview of what’s to come. [...] By bringing the valuable IP and creative capabilities from across ViacomCBS together in one product, we will deliver to consumers a compelling and differentiated service with something for everyone across news, live sports and on-demand entertainment in every genre.”

Some examples of the new content that ViacomCBS added this week:

  • Real Husbands of Hollywood and Hit the Floor from BET,

  • Strangers with Candy and Reno 911 from Comedy Central,

  • Laguna Beach and Teen Mom 2 from MTV,

  • Avatar: The Last Airbender and Rugrats from Nickelodeon,

  • Several documentaries from the Smithsonian Channel,

  • RuPaul’s Drag Race and Love & Hip Hop from VH1, and

  • A handful more films from Paramount Pictures, including Charlotte’s Web and Scary Movie.

If that sounds like a lot, then hold onto your warp cores because it doesn’t sound like they’re done yet. ViacomCBS says, “In the months to come, CBS All Access will continue to grow its content offering to include more than 30,000 episodes and movies from ViacomCBS’ vast library [...] In addition to its vast library and original content, the new service will have unrivaled live offerings, spanning national and local news, tentpole events and a critical mass of live sports [...] ViacomCBS will debut the full and rebranded service in early 2021.”
