OCTOBER 12, 2020 - Senator Elizabeth Warren is a fan of Star Trek.

She joins a growing list of politicians who have “come out” as Trekkies in the last year, including Cory Booker, Stacey Abrams, Pete Buttigieg and Andrew Yang. In Warren’s case, her admission came in an interview with InStyle Magazine, where she touted Star Trek: Discovery as part of her relaxation routine.

The former presidential candidate was speaking to InStyle about, among other things, her support for the current vice presidential candidate, Kamala Harris. Warren described how she and Harris became colleagues, and then friends, trading advice and support as each underwent significant changes in their professional lives. Warren related the insight Harris gave her on running for office: “Kamala made it clear that it's lonely to run for office,” she said. “There are a lot of people around, but, ultimately, you've got to make a little space for yourself. You get caught up in the whirlwind, but you need a little space.”

And how does Warren “make a little space” for herself? She cited spending time with her husband Bruce and her dog Bailey. When asked by InStyle whether she binge-watches anything on TV, she replied, “Yes. We're in the middle of Star Trek: Discovery right now. Season 2. It's really good. Michael Burnham is my new favorite character.”

The InStyle interview comes amid the Joe Biden presidential campaign appealing specifically to Star Trek fans for support. This Tuesday will see a special “Trek the Vote for Victory” fundraising event starring 19 Trek actors plus appearances by Andrew Yang, Pete Buttigieg and Stacey Abrams.
