IN MEMORIAM: John G. Trimble

There are fans, and there are fans. Superfans, one might say, and John G. Trimble was one, along with his wife, Bjo. Sadly, we must report that John died early this morning, as reported by his daughter, Lora.
John and Bjo are best known as the force behind the letter writing campaign that helped to save Star Trek: The Original Series when it was slated to be cancelled after season two. John and Bjo also established Lincoln Enterprises, the mail order company run by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry.
According to Lora’s Facebook post, John was a United States Air Force veteran. One of his best memories was when his 39th Air Rescue Squadron rescued visiting US Boy Scouts stranded on a mountain in Taiwan. It took multiple trips to get all hands safely home.
John and Bjo met “under a piano at Forrest J Ackerman’s mansion, a friend they met through science fiction fandom. They were married in July and would have celebrated 64 years of marriage.” (Ackerman was the founding editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine.) The Trimbles had three children.
Finally, said Lora, “John has touched thousands of lives in a way that [was] positive and full of joy. He will be greatly missed.”
