John Larroquette Got Back Into Klingon Makeup For Latest Episode of NIGHT COURT

John Larroquette as Maltz in STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK.

John Larroquette, widely celebrated for his Emmy-winning portrayal of prosecutor Dan Fielding on NBC's Night Court, is once again donning Klingon attire for an episode of the revival show's second season.

TrekMovie reports that in a special nod to his Star Trek roots, an upcoming episode titled “Wrath of Comic-Con,” alluding to the 1982 Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, features Larroquette in Klingon costume. This episode, according to the official description, centers around Dan Fielding's comic encounters at Comic-Con and includes other storylines involving key characters like Abby, portrayed by Melissa Rauch.

In Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, John Larroquette's character, Maltz, served under Commander Kruge, played by Christopher Lloyd. Maltz was the sole survivor of Kruge's ship's crew, a plot point that led to an amusing anecdote from Larroquette. In a 1989 interview with Starlog (as reported by Memory Alpha), he joked about a potential spin-off featuring Maltz, given his character's survival. Now, 35 years later, Larroquette revisits his Klingon roots in a humorous context for Night Court.

Night Court has a history of intertwining with the Star Trek franchise. An episode from the show's sixth season in 1989, “Yet Another Day in the Life,” involved Trekkies and a Star Trek convention storyline. Additionally, Brent Spiner, before his renowned role as Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation, appeared on Night Court as the character Bob Wheeler.

The "Wrath of Comic-Con" episode of Night Court, where Larroquette returns as a Klingon, is set to air on Tuesday, January 30th, on NBC at 8 pm and will also be available on Peacock. This episode marks a delightful convergence of Larroquette's significant contributions to both the Star Trek and Night Court universes, bridging his multifaceted career with a touch of nostalgia and humor.
