PREVIEW: Star Trek: Discovery, Episode 505 "Mirrors" (with Photos)

On last week’s episode of Star Trek: Discovery the crew’s mission was put on hold when Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie) fell victim to a time trap, shuffling them through key moments in the series. Now that the chronological crisis is concluded, the hunt for an ancient artifact is back on in this week’s episode, “Mirrors.” According to the press release,

Captain Burnham and Book journey into extradimensional space in search of the next clue to the location of the Progenitors’ power. Meanwhile, Rayner navigates his first mission in command of the U.S.S. Discovery, and Culber opens up to Tilly.

When you reflect on the episode’s title, along with the knowledge that an extradimensional journey is involved, you may be able to see where this is going. The episode sheds light on Moll and L’ak’s past and continues to examine some of our core cast members. Throughout these first five episodes, the characters and the show itself have been looking backward, examining the first four seasons. With the retrospective natore of season 5, I find it hard to believe that the writers and producers really didn’t know that this would be the final season.

You can watch DISCO episode 505, “Mirrors,” on Thursday, April 25 on Paramount+.
