FEBRUARY 14, 2023 - In season two of Star Trek: Picard we saw the bridging of chasms that had never been foreseen and new family ties of different sorts being formed. In season three, we’ll be revisiting the family that was formed over the course of the television and film run of Star Trek: The Next Generation, as familiar, if aging, faces grace our television screens one last time.

Season three of Star Trek: Picard premieres in a mere two days, with an episode entitled, more meaningfully than one might think at first, “The Next Generation.” In this first episode, after receiving a cryptic, urgent distress call from Dr. Beverly Crusher, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard enlists help from generations old and new to embark on one final adventure: a daring mission that will change Starfleet and his old crew forever.

“The Next Generation” was written by Picard showrunner Terry Matalas and directed by Doug Aarniokoski. Aarniokoski has directed episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, Short Treks, and Picard, and he has also produced on the latter two series.

In the photos below, you’ll see scenes from “The Next Generation” featuring our heroes Picard, Riker, Crusher, and Seven of Nine, along with a new crew member, Sidney La Forge, daughter of Geordi La Forge, played by Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut.

This first episode of the last season of Star Trek: Picard streams this Thursday, February 16, on Paramount+. If you’re not currently a Paramount+ subscriber, we’ve got a special deal for you.
