MAY 8, 2022 - He was a prolific television and film character actor from the early 1980s to, most recently, as a series regular on Somebody Somewhere, which ran earlier this year on HBO. According to Wikipedia, he was “known for his mustache and thick Chicago accent.” But don’t tell that to his Klingon and Barkonian selves.

Ian Spelling has shared on Heavy the sad news that Michael G. Hagerty has died, on April 29, at the age of 67. He would have been 68 as of tomorrow, May 10.

Hagerty played many roles, from Seinfeld and Friends to Boston Legal and Dick Tracy. He is known to Star Trek fans for his appearances as the Klingon, Captain Larg, in the Star Trek: The Next Generation season five episode, “Redemption II” and as the Barkonian blacksmith, Skoran, in the seventh season TNG episode, “Thine Own Self.” He also appeared in the 1996 video game, Star Trek: Klingon, as the bartender, Meska.

Bridget Everett, Hagerty’s co-star on Somebody Somewhere, said he was a "beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life. … He will be sorely missed."

Hagerty said of his own career, “A lot of the work has been in TV, and I think at least 30 movies, but a lot of those things… you take them as a credit. Some of them were larger than others and some were just a couple of lines here, a couple of lines there, maybe one episode here, but, you know, it’s all work. So, it all adds up. It’s been a lot and I’ve been very fortunate.”
