If there’s one thing that Star Trek fans love doing, it’s speculating about new Star Trek content. One story that sort of faded away earlier this year, when plans for Star Trek 4 fell apart at Paramount, was the longshot prospect of a Quentin Tarantino-led Star Trek film.

But apparently, Quentin Tarantino hasn’t forgotten about it, at least not yet. Slashfilm brings us an exclusive interview with Tarantino, ostensibly about his new “The Hateful Eight” miniseries on Netflix. But in a throwaway question near the end of the interview, Slashfilm asked whether there was any truth to the Star Trek movie rumors. Tarantino responded: “It’s a very big possibility. I haven’t been dealing with those guys for a while cause I’ve been making my movie. But we’ve talked about a story and a script. The script has been written and when I emerge my head like Punxsutawney Phil, post-Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, we’ll pick up talking about it again.”

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is Tarantino’s next big screen outing, due in theaters this summer. So I guess we’ll check back in on this story then.

The Hateful Eight, an extended version of Tarantino’s film of the same name, but cut into a 4-episode miniseries, is available on Netflix now.
