Star Trek: Defiant writer-artist duo Christopher Cantwell and Ángel Unzueta delve into the sci-fi horror genre in arc three of the fan-favorite series! Eager to move past the unofficial bounty-hunting mission assigned to them by Starfleet, disgraced former ambassador and Starfleet legend Worf and his rogue crew make way for Starbase 99, a run-down remnant of the Dominion War, to complete their fugitive drop-off.

The clandestine assignment has left them disillusioned with Starfleet and with one another, but a surprise awaits the Defiant crew, threatening to tear the crew apart even further—literally.

Star Trek: Defiant #12 sets the stage for an exciting new adventure titled "Hell is Only a Word," propelling Worf and the USS Defiant crew into uncharted territory. Anchored at Starbase 99, the issue delves into a chilling narrative which is a throwback to The Next Generation episode "Conspiracy."

Expanding on the unsettling premise of parasitic aliens infiltrating Starfleet, the comic ventures boldly into horror territory, evoking a palpable sense of foreboding within the station's confines.

With expert storytelling, the plot weaves an atmosphere of suspense, intertwining mystery and tension as characters grapple with the looming threat lurking among them. In addition to delivering riveting thrills and gripping sequences, the issue explores the intricate backstories of key figures like Nymira, offering tantalizing glimpses into their pasts and potential destinies.

Through subtle foreshadowing and veiled references to larger events such as the Borg Reclamation Project and the Romulan Supernova, it hints at significant developments on the narrative horizon.

Featuring meticulously crafted plotlines, compelling character dynamics, and a touch of visceral imagery reminiscent of classic horror, Star Trek: Defiant #12 captivates readers from start to finish.
