JULY 31, 2023 - Despite the ongoing strike, San Diego Comic-Con was still chock full of Star Trek news. There were many announcements and fun events, so in case you missed anything, we’ve decided to do a quick recap.

We got to see a preview of Star Trek Discovery’s 5th and final season which will be airing in 2024. The season follows Captain Burnham and the crew of DISCO as they adventure across the galaxy to uncover an ancient power. However, other adversaries are also on the hunt to claim this prize for themselves, regardless of who or what stands in their way. Fans at SDCC got a sneak peek at the first five minutes of the new season. In this scene, Captain Burnham is hot in pursuit of L’ak (played by Elias Toufexis) as she holds onto their starship while it travels at warp speed.

Star Trek: Lower Decks got an official release date: September 7th! The season follows the crew of the Cerritos with all of their skullduggery. There is, of course, a great evil force destroying starships across the galaxy, but the Cerritos isn’t important enough for that. Instead, the crew goes through their daily tasks of ship maintenance and watch, occasionally being sent off on an away team where they encounter many aliens, both new and old.

We got an early release of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode 207: “Those Old Scientists,” the much anticipated Lower Decks x Strange New Worlds crossover. This was an excitement for fans across the world and you can read all about it in this Daily Star Trek News article

Star Trek announced its first ever musical episode, which I, as a huge musical theater nerd, am ecstatic about. SNW 209, “Subspace Rhapsody,” will feature 10 original songs including a version of the main theme with music and lyrics by Kay Hayley and Tom Polce. You can Pre-Save the album here.

Star Trek: The Animated Series celebrates its 50th anniversary with the Animated Celebration. CBS Studios will be creating five animated promotional spots, featuring some of our favorite Star Trek characters such as Saru, Riker, and Quark. In addition, a new comic will be released titled Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents The Scheimer Barrier. The comic will be released digitally in September on StarTrek.com with physical copies available at New York Comic Con in October. You can read more about the 50th-anniversary celebration in this article.

The Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 volume 2 Blu-Ray and DVD release was officially announced and is available for preorder. It is set to be released on September 26th. It not only comes with the CD but also limited edition character cards!
