ROUNDUP: We Update You on Some Star Trek News You Need to Know
Paramount+ and Eaglemoss both have tiny updates this week.
OCTOBER 3, 2022 - Sometimes a news story breaks that makes Star Trek fans hold their breath, in anticipation of what happens next. The resolution to such a story could take days, weeks, months, and sometimes even years.
Over the weekend, two stories that we covered recently got some minor updates and as promised, we’re checking in with new details.
Something’s Coming…?
When we say details, we may be overstating things in this case.
Back in July, we reported that Eaglemoss, the maker of those teeny tiny starships that everyone loves, had appointed an administrator, the first step on the road to bankruptcy. Then, in August, we got confirmation of the rumor from Eaglemoss’ (former) program editor himself, Ben Robinson.
At the time, though Robinson couldn’t offer specific details, he did say that it was likely some of the Eaglemoss / Hero Collector product lines would be purchased by other companies for distribution and possibly continuing production. Well, if Robinson is to be believed, details are forthcoming.
Robinson tweeted on Saturday, “I haven’t been giving progress updates on what’s happening behind the scenes, and I still can’t because nothing is final, but I’m confident that October is going to be a good month, where we start to see some announcements about former Eaglemoss products. All of Star Trek…Except for the Movies
In September, we were the first to report on a curious thing happening on Paramount+. Most of the Star Trek films had quietly been moved to the “Enjoy Before They’re Gone” section. We predicted that the films would be removed soon, and sure enough, as of October 1, 2022, you can no longer watch any of the Original Series or Next Generation films, or Star Trek Beyond. Strangely, Star Tek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness are still available.
Most of the films seem to be available on Amazon Prime, but this puts an end to Paramount+ in the United States being your one-stop Star Trek viewing destination. Having said that, the films come and go on various streaming services all the time, usually due to contractual obligations, so they will likely return to the streamer eventually. When they do, we’ll be sure to let you know.
