NOVEMBER 3, 2020 - Production on season four of Star Trek: Discovery is underway!

It was just a couple weeks ago that Alex Kurtzman, Michelle Paradise, Sonequa Martin-Green and Doug Jones finally confirmed the franchise’s worst-kept secret: that Discovery season four would start filming on November 2nd. And, right on schedule, yesterday, both Paradise and Jones tweeted about the crew making it so.

Paradise tweeted, “Day One of season 4! So proud of our room - breaking and writing from corners, kitchens, garages, & home offices. And our production team - prepping a new season is a lot, esp. in a pandemic. They've done INCREDIBLE work to get us here and keep everyone safe. #StarTrekDiscovery”. She followed it up shortly after with another tweet, this one with a GIF of the Discovery doing a spore jump, with the caption, “Season 4, here we go!”

Later in the morning, Saru actor Doug Jones tweeted a pair of pictures of himself, before and after shaving his hair in preparation for his time in makeup. Of the transformation, Jones said, “Back to my under-Saru look, as season 4 of [Star Trek:] Discovery begins filming this week!” Jones also clarified that his shaved head was not a requirement from the makeup team, saying, “No one makes me do this, it’s my own decision to save the extra step and time of bald capping before my Kelpien prosthetics are applied.”

While it’s a good sign that production is starting up again for Discovery, it’s likely to take longer than usual, and of course, we’ve had no indication yet as to when we might expect to see season four on our screens. According to the Toronto IATSE website (that’s the stage labor union), Discovery is currently booked for production through June 10th, 2021, although it’s hard to say at this point how accurate that is.

To catch up on Star Trek: Discovery season three (and one and two if you haven’t already), be sure to head over to CBS All Access (or its international partners), where episodes one through three are streaming now.
