JULY 28, 2021 - Star Trek: Discovery’s Lt. Paul Stamets, Anthony Rapp, is running for office! But you needn’t confirm your voter registration just yet.

Last week, Rapp’s fellow actor and on-screen partner, Discovery’s Dr. Hugh Culber, Wilson Cruz, tweeted out his support for Rapp’s candidacy for the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Referring to Rapp and the others running for positions with the union, Cruz said, “I’m so inspired by and grateful for these visionary leaders, not least of all my dear [Anthony Rapp], who is so READY to take us to a BOLDER FUTURE at #sagaftra!”

In his own statement, Rapp said, “I have been a proud union member since I was nine years old. My decades of work have afforded me a platform that I strive to use as a voice for the voiceless, and as a champion for acceptance, inclusion, safety, and opportunity for all.”

SAG-AFTRA, according to its website, “represents approximately 160,000 actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists and other media professionals.”

Cruz and Star Trek: Picard’s Raffi Musiker, Michelle Hurd, are also running in the election for national board seats, representing United for Strength, a Los Angeles based group of SAG-AFTRA members.

The election ballots are to be sent out August 3rd and counted on September 2nd.
