LeVar Burton at the Museum of Science: Thursday, August 10

As we noted earlier this week, LeVar Burton will be leading a symposium hosted by Boston’s Museum of Science, in which experts in Mars mission planning, planetary science, and spacecraft development will cover what astronauts can expect while traveling to and from Mars and living on the surface. Attendance can be virtual or in person. The event takes place TONIGHT at 7:30 p.m. ET. Head over to the Museum of Science for details and to register.

Hotsy Totsy Tribute to Star Trek: Thursday, August 10

Cherry Pitz and Handsome Brad host a sexy tribute to our favorite franchise, taking place TONIGHT at The Slipper Room, in New York City. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. ET. Check out The Slipper Room for details and to order tickets.

FanExpo Chicago: Thursday, August 10 – Sunday, August 13

Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Peter Weller, Brent Spiner, Michelle Hurd, and Todd Stashwick are scheduled to attend FanExpo, taking place at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. FanExpoHQ has all the details.

Masterclass: Understanding Shakespeare’s Rhetoric with Armin Shimerman: Saturday, August 12

This virtual Masterclass is intended for actors, directors, students, theater-lovers, and anyone who has ever wanted to learn more about Shakespeare. Professor Armin Shimerman (USC School of Dramatic Arts) delves into Shakespeare’s style and the different literary devices and strategies he used in his plays. Students will also develop an understanding of England as Shakespeare knew it. Class begins at 10:00 a.m. PT. Head over to the Antaeus Theatre Company to sign up.

·These are the Twitter watchalongs:

o   #allstartrek runs Sunday through Friday at 8/7C and follows the Heroes and Icons Channel’s All Star Trek programme.

o   #TOSSatNight starts at 9pm PT on Saturday night and follows a different episode of The Original Series every week, and

o   #StarTrekHour is a Q&A-format event, every Tuesday at 1pm PT.

·Then there’s Star Trek: Watch Party, hosted daily and coordinated on Facebook. Every evening, they use the Teleparty browser extension to watch Star Trek together. To find out more, head over to Star Trek: Watch Party on Facebook.

·Speaking of a Star Trek watch party: the iBlind Users Group hosts Trekkie Talk on the first and third Thursdays of every month. They watch an audio descriptive version of a Star Trek episode and get together virtually to discuss it. To find out how to join in, visit ibugtoday.com/trekkie-talk.

·But wait, there’s more watch partying: Club IDIC hosts a weekly watch party and discussion at 6pm Alberta Time every Friday. The schedule and Zoom links are available at the Club IDIC Facebook page.

·Virtual Trek Con presents The Main Viewer every Tuesday - a live discussion show on YT with occasional special guests and an open chat geared towards fan interaction.

·Disco Does DnD - livestream DnD game with DSC actors on Twitch, every Sunday at 1pmPT/4pmET.

· Join Grey Havens Philosophy and Outworld Brewing every first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. as they discuss the big ideas inspired by Star Trek. The gatherings are at Outworld Brewing, in Longmont, Colorado. Attendance is free, but an RSVP for planning purposes is appreciated at Eventbrite.

·And finally, there’s Sid City Social Club, hosted by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine star Alexander Siddig’s official fan website. They meet twice monthly on the first Tuesday and third Friday of every month, with occasional pop-up meetings with Sid as his schedule allows. ·Ongoing through October, Starship Edsel is a Star Trek inspired farce set aboard the Federation Starship Edsel towards the end of the 24th century. It is based upon a LARP written and developed by Brandon Brylawski, who is also a producer and head writer on this show. Performances take place at the Otherworld Theatre, in Chicago. ·Ongoing through March 2024, the National Museum of African American History and Culture hosts the exhibition, “Afrofuturism: A History of Black Futures,” which includes a uniform worn by Nichelle Nichols.

·Ongoing Saturdays through August 19, join To Boldly Go for a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds viewing event and fundraiser, starting at 6 p.m. ET at the Barracuda Lounge in New York City. Included are drag shows, 2-for-1 drinks, bingo & trivia, and prizes & giveaways. Each night is dedicated to supporting The Ali Forney Center's mission is to protect LGBTQ+ youth from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to live independently.
