Star Trek events: Thursday, February 4th - Wednesday, February 10th, 2021

Everyone loves a Star Trek virtual event!

Next weekend is Valentine’s Day so this weekend is a perfect time to hang out with your platonics for a bit of Star Trek fun. How about we make plans for some virtual events?

Ivor Davis: Up Close and Personal with Malcolm McDowell - Thursday, February 4th

First up, this evening, February 4th at 6:30pm PT, author, journalist and investigative reporter Ivor Davis will be interviewing Star Trek: Generations star Malcolm McDowell live on Facebook, courtesy of the Museum of Ventura County, in California.

Registration is free and open to the public, and you can find out more information on the event at facebook.com/museumofventuracounty.

GalaxyCon private signing event: George Takei - Sunday, February 7th

Next up, an event that’s not quite an event...GalaxyCon is hosting a private signing event with George Takei this Sunday, February 7th. It’s not an event open to the public, but if you purchase an autograph, you can choose either a photograph, a mini-poster, or you can send in your own photograph for Takei to sign, as long as your order is completed by midnight on Sunday. It’s worth reading the fine print for this one, if you’re in the market for a George Takei signature, and get your pocketbooks ready: an autograph runs you $100.

For more information, including how to send in an item for Takei to sign, head to galaxycon.com.

NFL Superbowl: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Sunday, February 7th

This next one is not strictly Star Trek, but it’s worth mentioning that this Sunday is Superbowl Sunday, with the Kansas City Chiefs playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa. Kick-off is at 6:30pm ET. The game will be available on CBS and CBS All Access, and it’s worth keeping an eye out for the last of the cool new Paramount+ ads featuring Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Discovery.

It’s also a great time to consider signing up for CBS All Access; for a limited time, when you sign up for their annual plan, you can get 50% your first year using the promo code PARAMOUNTPLUS, and your subscription will convert over to Paramount+ on March 4th. To find out more about that deal, head to dailystartreknews.com/cbsallaccess.

Daily Star Trek Views - Friday, February 5th

And of course, don’t forget to join me tomorrow afternoon, Friday at 1pm PT, for the live show Daily Star Trek Views on YouTube. This week, I’m talking trash about Star Trek: Lower Decks episode two: “Envoys”. Subscribe now so you don’t miss it; head to youtube.com/dailystartreknews.

The regular stuff

And finally, here’s a recap of the stuff that’s going on every week; if you haven’t joined in yet and you’re at a loose end, now would be a great time to do it.

  • These are the Twitter watchalongs:

    • #allstartrek runs Sunday through Friday at 8/7C and follows the Heroes and Icons Channel’s All Star Trek programme.

    • #TOSSatNight starts at 9pm PT on Saturday night and follows a different episode of the Original Series every week, and

    • #StarTrekHour is a Q&A-format event, every Tuesday at 1pm PT.

  • Then there’s Star Trek: Watch Party, hosted daily and coordinated on Facebook. Every evening, they use the Teleparty browser extension to watch Star Trek together. To find out more, head over to Star Trek: Watch Party on Facebook.

  • And finally, Sid City Social Club, hosted by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine star Alexander Siddig’s official fan website, is continuing their twice-weekly livestreams on Fridays and Tuesdays. To find out more, including how to join in, head to sidcity.net.

If you have an online event or gathering you’d like me to promote on the show, let me know! How are YOU getting together with your fellow Trekkies, without leaving the house?
