Star Trek: The Next Generation guest star Maurice Roëves has passed away at the age of 83. Comicbook.com reported that his agent, Lovett Logan, announced his recent passing to the Edinburgh Evening News. Logan did not specify Roëves’ cause of death.

Star Trek fans will know Roëves from his role as the Romulan Commander in the Star Trek: The Next Generation season 6 episode, “The Chase”. In that episode, the Federation, Romulans, Klingons and Cardassians race to solve a puzzle that could reveal the origin of all humanoid life in the galaxy. Roëves’ role was particularly memorable for his line near the end of the episode, speaking to Captain Picard, “ It would seem that we are not completely dissimilar after all, in our hopes, or in our fears.”

Outside of Star Trek, Roëves was a prolific actor, known for his roles as Col. Munro in 1992’s The Last of the Mohicans, and as Miller in 1995’s Judge Dredd, among many others. In Lovett’s statement, he said, “As well as being a truly dedicated and gifted actor, he was also a real gentleman and a delight to have as a client. We will miss him greatly and our thoughts and love go out to Vanessa and his family."
