JULY 13, 2023 - The past two days have been very eventful for prominent TV shows with both the Hollywood Critics Association TV awards and the Emmy Awards being announced. Two Star Trek series received a total of 10 nominations!

On July 11th Hollywood Critics Association announced nominees for their 3rd Annual HCA TV Awards. HCA breaks up its nominations between streaming and cable shows. Star Trek: Picard season 3 dominated the streaming category with 7 nominations!

Sir Patrick Stewart, who plays Picard, was nominated for Best Actor in a Streaming Drama Series. Funnily enough, he will be competing against the Lower Decks star Jack Quaid who was nominated for his role in The Boys.

After seeing his absolutely astounding performance as Data in Picard season 3, it is no surprise that Brent Spiner got nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Drama Series. In addition to that, Jeri Ryan, who plays Seven of Nine, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Drama Series. Michelle Forbes, who briefly shows up in the episode “Imposters” as Ro Laren, got nominated for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

On top of all of that, Picard season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas was also nominated for Best Writing in a Streaming Drama Series and Best Directing in a Streaming Drama Series.

However, Picard wasn’t the only Star Trek show to receive nominations. For the second year in a row, Lower Decks received the nomination for Best Streaming Animated Series Or TV Movie.

On July 12th the nominees for the 2023 Emmy Awards were announced. Picard recieved two nominations, one for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic), specifically for the episode “Võx.” The other nomination was for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, specifically for the Episode “The Last Generation,” where we see plenty of phenomenal prosthetic makeup with The Borg Queen and Vox being front and center.

The HCA TV Awards usually take place over two days and were set to be presented on August 12th and 13th, however, due to the ongoing WGA strike and the SAG/AFTRA strike looming, there is currently no official date set for the presentation of these awards. Similarly, the Emmys are currently taking place on September 18th, but that is subject to postponement if the demands of WGA are not met soon.
