MARCH 18, 2021 - Last week, Deadline reported that Kevin and Dan Hageman, the brotherly duo responsible for creating the upcoming Nickelodeon series Star Trek: Prodigy, have signed an exclusive deal with CBS Studios.

The new, multi-year deal will see the Hageman brothers carry on with Prodigy, while continuing to develop new television content exclusively for CBS Studios. The team is largely known for their writing work in animation. Some of their prior work includes The LEGO Movie and the Netflix series Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia. Kevin and Dan Hageman’s work on Trollhunters earned the pair an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program.

The Hagemans don’t work exclusively in animation. The pair wrote the screenplay for the 2019 live-action film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and they’re reportedly in the process of writing a sequel. While they will continue to work in animation, particularly on Star Trek: Prodigy, their new deal with CBS Studios will give them the opportunity to stretch their wings and create more live-action material as well.

The Hageman brothers said of the deal, “We’re overjoyed about our opportunity to work closely with David Stapf and his entire team at CBS Studios. [...] We have felt nothing but trust and support while collaborating on Star Trek: Prodigy. Not only are we anticipating big things in animation, but the possibilities in the live-action space have us very excited as well.”

CBS Studios President David Stapf praised the Hageman brothers’ ability to create compelling characters, saying, “Dan and Kevin are brilliant creators and master storytellers [...] They’ve done an amazing job creating Star Trek: Prodigy for a younger audience, and we can’t wait for kids and families to discover and enjoy it. We feel so fortunate that they will make their home at CBS Studios.”
