JANUARY 25, 2021 - Marina Sirtis has announced that she is moving back to the United Kingdom.

Last Tuesday, January 19th, Sirtis tweeted, “Breaking news! I am moving back to the UK. Before you all jump to the wrong conclusions, it is because apart from Picard, all my work in the last 3 years has come from the UK. Having spent half my life here, it will be hard to leave. I hope I made a difference”.

According to Wikipedia, Sirtis emigrated to the United States to pursue a career in Hollywood, and has lived in California ever since. While she’s since become a naturalized citizen, she’s never lost sight of her heritage. Sirtis was raised in London by Greek parents, and she still frequently voices support for both her football team (Tottenham Hotspur) and her Greek culture.

2020 was a difficult year for Sirtis, who lives alone in Los Angeles with her dogs. Her husband, musician Michael Lamper, passed away suddenly in December of 2019, so she’s been isolated since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Back in March of 2020, some of her Star Trek: The Next Generation castmates got together virtually to wish her a happy birthday, for which she said, “I have the best friends in the world.”

After Sirtis announced that she intends to head back to the U.K., some fans enquired whether she’d consider being a contestant on some of their favorite British reality shows. In retweets, Sirtis ruled out the ice-dancing competition Dancing on Ice and the celebrity Survivor spinoff I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! But in reply to one fan suggesting Strictly Come Dancing, the predecessor to America’s Dancing with the Stars, she simply gave a thumbs-up emoji, so perhaps there’s hope there.

Sirtis did not give a date for her expected departure from the U.S. but she did say she would try and get the COVID-19 vaccine before she goes. If you’d like to stay up to date with Sirtis’ progress, you can follow her at @Marina_Sirtis on Twitter, or download her iOS app, which she recently updated.
