Actor Zachary Quinto, known for the role of Spock in the Kelvin Timeline Star Trek films, has joined the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in the launch of their new Kindness Initiative. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Quinto, a native Pittsburgher, was online with other celebrities to launch the initiative at the museum’s “Great Night In” virtual gala event this past Sunday, June 14th. The project aims to spread examples of love and kindness through a mail-in campaign, which children and families are encouraged to participate in.

Adjusting our lives around COVID-19 and ongoing protests are challenging all of us to stay positive in this time of crisis. Quinto’s impassioned speech encouraged viewers to share their stories with the world. “Now, more than ever, kids need to see examples of love and kindness in the world around them,” Quinto said. “We want you and your kids to write letters about what’s happening in the world today, as complicated as it is. Tell us your joys. Share with us your fears…show us a story about a time in your life that you were treated with love and extraordinary kindness.”

Those participating are able to express their feelings in a variety of ways, through dance, poetry and photographs, or you can simply mail in a letter. These messages of kindness will be posted online and displayed in the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh when it is able to reopen.

If you or your family would like to share some positivity with the world, this is a great way to do it! Check out PittsburghKids.org to find out more about the Kindness Initiative.
