FEBRUARY 2, 2022 - For those of you hoping to see Star Trek bring it “back to basics”, Deadline reports CBS Studios and Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout have a new series in development. According to their sources, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will likely be one of the next offerings from the franchise.

Absentia co-creator Gaia Violo is reportedly attached to the project, one that some might say is long overdue. Fans have gotten a glimpse of Academy life in Star Trek films and past episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and now Star Trek: Discovery, but no series has made the Academy the focal point. That is, until now.

While the long-expected Section 31 series is reportedly still on its way to becoming a reality, Alex Kurtzman confirmed during Tuesday’s Strange New Worlds TCA panel, “there is another one”, likely Starfleet Academy, but he chose to remain quiet on the details.

“We have to think several years out,” Kurtzman told Deadline at the event. “We’re thinking about knowing we’ll want new shows on the air two or three years from now so we have to start planning those now. There’s a bunch of things in development now that are starting to take shape and we’re super excited about it.”
