Today in Star Trek history: guest actor Rachel Robinson was born

Rachel Robinson as “Melanie” in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine “The Visitor”

ON THIS DAY, July 14th, back in 1975, Rachel Robinson was born. Robinson played aspiring writer Melanie in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode “The Visitor”, and she’s the daughter of Andrew Robinson, who played recurring Cardassian Garak in that same series. Robinson was also a leading candidate for the role of Ezri Dax in DS9’s seventh and final season, a role that eventually went to Nicole De Boer.

Also a singer/songwriter, Robinson has thus far released four albums, a self-titled one in 2003, Platonica Falls in 2007, My Pleasure in 2009 and c’est la swimming in 2015. In addition to her turn on Deep Space Nine, she has guest starred in a number of television series, including a recurring (though uncredited role) in the 1976 series Ryan’s Hope, ER, Judging Amy (in which she played two different characters in two different episodes) and the upcoming series The Power.

Please join us in wishing Rachel Robinson a very happy birthday!
