With CBS All Access being overhauled and rebranded this summer, Star Trek is taking center stage as the model franchise for the streaming service. A report from TrekMovie.com gathered a few stories together, explaining how ViacomCBS executives Bob Bakish and Jeff Grossman have given some insight on the upcoming expansion and how Star Trek has played a significant role.

Grossman, CBS All Access’ Senior Vice President of Content Strategy, spoke about the impact Star Trek has had on streaming audiences at the NAB Executive Leadership Summit earlier this month. “I think some of our programming has really resonated with audiences,” Grossman said. “There’s something in the Star Trek DNA that is embedded with [...] a hopeful kind of look at the future. And that type of content is also really resonating with fans and viewers right now.”

Bakish, ViacomCBS’ CEO, promised to shareholders this week that there will be growth in original content for the streaming platform. “As production reopens you will see an expanded slate of originals [...] from all of our flagship brands,” Bakish announced. Detailing the expansion of existing brands, Bakish went on to say, “Look at what we have done with CBS All Access and Star Trek, etcetera. Now take that model and apply it to the portfolio of brands and it is really going to be a very compelling offering.”

As a brand, Star Trek has been a focal point of investment for ViacomCBS with no shortage of new content coming down the pike (pun intended). With a new interface, new original content and additional films from the Paramount library, the rebranded platform will surely remain competitive as other streaming services join the market this summer.

While we all may be waiting a bit longer for new Star Trek content to arrive, you can get caught up on every episode, currently streaming on CBS All Access.
