Voilà! John de Lancie as Q makes an appearance in the latest Star Trek: Lower Decks trailer (if only for a second)

John de Lancie voices Q in Star Trek: Lower Decks

CBS All Access has released a new trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks, ahead of the second half of its current season. And it’s got a few surprises...possibly the biggest of which is the appearance of Q. Yes, voiced by John de Lancie.

Now, first. When you watch the trailer, no, your ears are not deceiving you, it’s the Star Trek: Voyager theme. Why? Well, they don’t explain. And that’s just the first thing they don’t explain!

The one-minute trailer lacks any cohesive presentation of a story, but that’s consistent with the nature of Lower Decks - episodic, with short episodes. There’s a kind of robot dog, some Gorn, combat, goofy stuff, and more. If you’ve been watching Lower Decks so far, then you’ll enjoy this mid-season look at what’s to come.

But what about John de Lancie as Q? He only appears right at the end of the trailer, dressed in full “Encounter at Farpoint” regalia, just long enough to say “Voilà!” and snap his fingers. We’ll have to wait and see what other shenanigans (if any) he gets up to, later this season.

For now, you can catch up on the first five episodes of the inaugural season of Star Trek: Lower Decks, on CBS All Access.
