To The Journey: Looking Back at Star Trek: Voyager

APRIL 6, 2022 - A new teaser video for the upcoming documentary To The Journey: Looking back at Star Trek: Voyager was released earlier this week. TrekMovie.com brought us a first look at the intimate tone audiences can expect from the film.

In the video, you’ll see clips of interviews with most of the main cast, along with other familiar faces, including Voyager executive producers Jeri Taylor and Rick Berman, as well as Star Trek veteran actor George Takei. Cast members aren’t afraid to tackle some of the hard-hitting topics, such as racial diversity on television, and gender equality. Fans will also get a brief look at Kate Mulgrew’s rise to the captain’s chair, along with finding out a few secrets about the cast members - and the characters - of Star Trek: Voyager.

Production on To The Journey has been a long process. Producer David Zappone announced that filming would begin aboard Star Trek: The Cruise just days before the ship would set out. Unfortunately, the cruise took place just before COVID-19 stay-at-home orders went into place, halting production. Filming resumed later in the year. In March of 2021, a crowdfunding campaign for the film absolutely smashed the original goal of $150,000 within hours of launching. Support for the documentary didn’t stop there, with backers ultimately raising more than $1.3 million, making it the world’s most successful crowdfunded campaign for a documentary film.

Production on To the Journey is expected to conclude soon, with a release date expected sometime this year.
