Former Star Trek star and current The Ready Room host Wil Wheaton will soon be hosting a new show, all about e-sports.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wheaton is the host of GameMaster, a competition-style reality show that pitches e-sports athletes against each other for a $100,000 grand prize. The show is expected to premiere sometime this spring. Quoting the Hollywood Reporter piece, “Each week, a contestant will be sent home, with the season culminating in a one-on-one battle between the top two competitors. The nine-episode season will debut on an unspecified streaming service.”

Outside of Star Trek, Wheaton is known for his gaming cred. While perhaps better known for his tabletop gaming experience, having hosted the web series TableTop for four seasons, Wheaton has also lent his voice to video games, including Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Fallout: New Vegas. The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Wheaton is due to host the SXSW Gaming Awards - focused on video games - at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, in March.

As for the show itself, John Colp, GameMaster’s creator and executive producer, explained how it will work. “GameMaster takes the love of gaming and elevates it to a whole new level through the first immersive, multi-platform, head-to-head competition for both casual and diehard gaming fans.” He went on: “Our players won’t play the same game from noon to night. They will play different games throughout and, at the end, the person who has the best cumulative score will be crowned the champion.”

Once again, keep an eye out for Wil Wheaton hosting GameMaster, expected to premiere sometime this spring.
