FEBRUARY 21, 2021 - There’s a new Star Trek novel trilogy coming later this year, from a trio of powerhouse Star Trek authors.

Over the weekend, David Mack, author of several Star Trek novels including the Discovery-focused Desperate Hours and the Star Trek: Destiny trilogy, tweeted, “Because the news is out and spreading rapidly, I'm now free to share a few details about the project on which I've been laboring for the past several months: STAR TREK: CODA”. In a thread, Mack elaborated that the story is set in the late 24th century, and that the plot was created jointly by him and the other authors, Dayton Ward and James Swallow. The series will be released starting in September.

The first book is Moments Asunder, written by Ward. It’s slated for a September 28th release. Ward has written dozens of Star Trek novels, including the Star Trek: Discovery-focused Drastic Measures, the recent illustrated Kirk-Fu Manual, and the Hidden Universe Travel Guides to Vulcan and to The Klingon Empire.

The next book, due out on October 12th, is called The Ashes of Tomorrow, written by Swallow. Swallow has written numerous licensed novels from franchises such as Warhammer 40,000, Doctor Who and 24, as well as the recent Star Trek novels Fear Itself (from Star Trek: Discovery) and The Dark Veil (from Star Trek: Picard).

The third and final book is due out on November 30th, called Oblivion’s Gate, and it’ll be written by Mack.

Expanding on Mack’s Twitter post, Ward posted some more details on Facebook. He said, “For those interested in such things, we spent a good portion of early-mid 2020 developing the story together. [...] We each weighed in on the other outlines as we got those whipped into shape, and presented the entire package to our editors as well as the licensing folks at CBS. While each book is credited to its author, the plan is for all three books to carry a joint story credit.”

Beyond an explanation of the story’s development and the titles, however, Ward made it clear that questions of plot would not be entertained. “You can ask all the questions you want,” he said, but I’m not answering jack so far as plot details, hints about plot details, wish lists, hopes and dreams about what you want to see....nuthin’.”

Once again, the Star Trek: Coda trilogy will start being released at the end of September. For now, you can follow the authors David Mack, Dayton Ward and James Swallow on social media...just in case they spill any more beans.
