JULY 28, 2022 - Captain Benjamin Sisko is coming back to the Alpha Quadrant! A new, ongoing Star Trek comic series was announced during IDW Publishing’s “Where No Comic Has Gone Before” panel at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend. A detailed report from trekmovie.com shed some light on the new storyline, which is due for release in October, and bridges several iterations of the franchise.

The first issue of the new series is expected to be listed as “Star Trek #1”, and will pick up in 2378, three years after Sisko joined the Bajoran Prophets at the end of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and one year before the events of Star Trek: Nemesis.

Let’s cut to the chase with a quick synopsis:

Star Trek #1 weaves an epic and unprecedented adventure story that spans the far reaches of the Star Trek multiverse, bringing together characters from across the galaxy—and all eras and variations of the beloved franchise—who must band together to prevent the mysterious murder of the gods.

It’s stardate 2378, and Benjamin Sisko has finally returned from the Bajoran Wormhole omnipotent. But his godhood is failing with every minute. Sent by the Prophets on a mission to the deepest parts of space aboard the U.S.S. Theseus, he witnesses the unthinkable: someone is killing the gods. And only Sisko and his motley crew of Starfleet members from every era of Trek can stop them.

The series will be written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, with artwork from Ramon Rosanas, known for Star Wars and Ant Man. The storyline will include some familiar faces, including Dr. Beverly Crusher and Lt. Commander Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. They will be joined by an Andorian child, Sato, and a Vulcan named T’Lir. The new comic series is also expected to include “Starfleet members from every era of Trek,” in what promises to “treat Gene Roddenberry’s creation as a living universe.” Given what we know about the Prophets, that shouldn’t come as a shock.

Look for IDW’s Star Trek #1 wherever you get your comics this October.
