FEBRUARY 13, 2022 - Sir Patrick Stewart might be on track to have a much bigger year than many Star Trek fans anticipated. While Stewart is set to return to Paramount+ in Star Trek: Picard season two next month, it now looks as though he might be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well.

During Sunday’s Super Bowl, a new trailer premiered for the upcoming MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. At roughly 1:20 minutes into the trailer, a handcuffed Doctor Strange is escorted into a large, stone chamber to face a panel of shadowy figures on a platform, seated in high-backed chairs. As Strange looks at them, confused, a “mystery voice” says, “We should tell him the truth.”

While there’s no official confirmation yet whose voice it is that’s billed “mystery voice”, Star Trek fans and X-Men fans alike will recognize the unmistakable baritone of Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the former and Professor Charles Xavier in the latter. It has been widely rumored for some time that the X-Men could make an appearance in the MCU, after the acquisition of 20th Century FOX by Disney in 2019. Now, with Stewart’s voice and the blurry outline of the back of a bald head in the trailer, it appears that day may have finally come.
