Sir Patrick Stewart appears in Wired’s Autocomplete Interview

Sir Patrick Stewart sure has been making the interview rounds. Yesterday I told you about his session with Playboy for their 20Q feature, and today, it’s a video feature for Wired.

In Wired’s “Autocomplete Interview” series on YouTube, celebrities are given a series of questions to answer, inspired by Google search’s autocomplete function. There were some normal questions, like “How old was Patrick Stewart in Star Trek?” and “Does Patrick Stewart drink Earl Grey tea?” And then, of course, there were some odd ones, like “Is Patrick Stewart related to Martha Stewart?” and “Does Patrick Stewart sing country songs?”

Stewart gave details around how he met his best friend, Sir Ian McKellen, on the set of X-Men. “We had adjoining trailers,” he said. “When you're in those kinds of movies, you spend more time sitting in your trailer than you do in front of the camera. So yeah, Ian and I hung out together drinking tea and later in the afternoon maybe something a little stronger and we got to know one another.”

Stewart also told the story of how he met Seth MacFarlane, creator of The Orville and American Dad, on which Stewart voiced a character. Of that encounter, he said, “Seth is a huge Star Trek fan and I had enjoyed his work for a long time, and then he asked me to play a role in his animated series.”

Some of the answers in the piece were more personal, like his Valentine’s Day gift to his wife, singer Sunny Ozell. “I had a very exciting morning,” he said.  “My wife's Valentine present was delivered to us.” He explained: “My wife loves ancient olive trees and so that is what I have given my wife as a Valentine's present. It's now planted in my garden and it's amazing. It is 38 years old. We've given it a name. It's called Valentino.”

You can watch the whole video on Wired’s YouTube channel. It’s a wonderful treat, if you’re a Patrick Stewart fan. And you can see Stewart in action in the latest episode of Star Trek: Picard, “The Impossible Box”, now streaming on CBS All Access.
