FEBRUARY 4, 2021 - Earlier this week, FOX19 of Cincinnati, Ohio brought us a story of friendship, empathy and love, with a Star Trek twist.

When Julie Moores found out that her best friend Mike was terminally ill, she sprang into action. Knowing Mike’s lifelong love of Star Trek, Moores partnered with the ProMedica Hospice Memorial Fund and together they were able to give Mike and his partner a very special gift - personalized Cameo videos from Star Trek: The Next Generation actors Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes.

According to Moores, after spending several months in the hospital, Mike was allowed to return home, expecting to recover. Sadly, his cancer continued to spread. “This was a terrible shock to all of us, especially his significant other, Ben,” she said of her friends, adding, “Mike and Ben are the kindest and funniest people I have ever known, so I really wanted to do something that would brighten their days and help them to feel special during such a difficult time.”

In their piece, FOX19 shared Spiner’s message to Mike. It seems that Spiner’s character, Data, is a favorite of Mike and Ben’s. In true “Brent Spiner fashion”, the actor said “Mike [...] you and I have that in common. We both especially enjoy Data. I think we have something else in common.” Spiner talked for a moment about how his love for the TNG cast has remained strong for more than 30 years. He added, “What we have in common there, [...] is how well-loved you are - and that’s so clear from Julie - who wanted me to send this - to your husband Ben. I think you’re completely surrounded by love and there really isn’t anything better than that. And I just wanted to add my love to it, and send my love to you.”

Mike and Ben absolutely loved the videos and, according to Moores, Mike said, “I can’t believe you guys would do this for me. I want these videos [saved] to a flash drive so they can be placed in my urn with my ashes so I can keep them always.”
