You may remember last year when a Patrick Stewart deepfake surfaced using footage from Star Trek: Nemesis. And who could forget Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk sharing screen time in a scene from the Original Series pilot “The Cage”? Well, a new Star Trek deepfake featuring the late actor Leonard Nimoy has been making the rounds this week. TrekMovie.com reported that YouTube channel Jarkan, known for creating deepfake videos which replace actors from well-known films, posted the video last week.

The scene in question is when Spock meets Spock Prime at the end of Star Trek (2009). In the video, actor Zachary Quinto’s face has been replaced with a younger, Original Series-era Nimoy. Other deepfake videos using Leonard Nimoy’s younger image have surfaced in the past, but advancements in the technology have come a long way and TrekMovie notes that the new video “has more impressive results”.

While the two-minute scene with Nimoy meeting his younger self may be visually convincing, hearing Quinto’s voice coming from Nimoy’s lips might be something you’ll want to prepare yourself for before watching. Watch the entirety of the new Leonard Nimoy deepfake for yourself on YouTube.
