You’ve heard of Star Trek model starships...but what about Star Trek model trains?

The Trek Collective - an excellent website dedicated to all things Star Trek collectible - reports that Lionel trains, makers of high-quality model trains and railroads, have announced a new line of Trek-themed trains, which will be available later this year.

The flagship of the range, as it were, is a full train modelled after the Enterprise-D. The Star Trek LionChief train features an engine emblazoned with “NCC-1701-D”, and three cars based on locations aboard the ship: sickbay, Ten Forward, and Holodeck 3. The Holodeck car is a special one: it features a graphic that travels around the car when it’s connected to track power, as well as interior lumination.

In addition to the main set of engine and three cars, other individual cars will also be available. There are two boxcars, dedicated to Kirk and Picard, respectively, a “Tribble Transport” car, and last, but not least, a Romulan Ale tank car, filled with blue liquid and a sign across the side that reads “confiscated”.

The Enterprise-D train set and the individual cars are all in the O gauge, and according to The Trek Collective, are on track for a third quarter 2020 release.
