Opening Scenes of What Could Have Opened Deep Space 9 Season 8

Deep Space Niners eagerly awaiting the DS9 documentary “What We Left Behind” get a little taste of what’s to come today.

Io9 brings us an exclusive interview with director and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine showrunner Ira Steven Behr. As part of the interview, he revealed an exclusive animated storyboard clip showing his vision for how a theoretical season 8 would have started. In the clip, Captain Nog takes command of the Defiant as it makes a brave dash for the wormhole, emerging onto a familiar vista of Deep Space Nine station.

The interview wasn’t just about the clip, however, and covered several topics pertaining to the film. One of the focusses of the interview was, of course, Behr’s decision to use fully remastered clips in the documentary. Originally, the project was going to use 5 minutes of high-definition, remastered clips, and 15 minutes of standard def, but at the last minute, he made the decision to commit to remastering all the clips in the film. Responding to his crew who said that it was too late and too expensive to do, Behr remembers saying, “I totally understand that, but we’re doing it anyway.”

What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is in theatres for one night only on May 13th. Tickets available at FathomEvents.com.
