Playmates' 'Star Trek: Prodigy' Janeway Action Figure May Be Is Delayed, Possibly Cancelled

MAY 15, 2023 - Trek toy collectors will apparently have to wait at least a little longer to get their hands on the Star Trek: Prodigy Janeway figure coming from Playmates.

According to information released by TrekCore on Twitter, toy stores have been informed that the toys are indefinitely delayed, leading some to cancel pre-orders.

.@PlaymatesToys has delayed the release of their #StarTrekProdigy 'Hologram Janeway' figure; some retailers are cancelling preorders as a result.

No new date has been shared by the company for when Janeway (or Rok-Tahk, or other PRODIGYtoys) will be available.

In its tweet, TrekCore shared an image from California-based collectibles company Entertainment Earth. The message reads:

Unfortunately, we’re sorry to report that the manufacturer has informed us that the Star Trek: Prodigy Holographic Janeway 5-inch action figure you ordered has been canceled and we will not be able to ship it to you. No additional information was provided to us by the manufacturer as to why the item was canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes you.

Entertainment Earth’s website currently allows customers to place orders for other characters from the animated series including Gwyndala, Zero, Dal, Murf, and Jankom Pog. Gwyn is shown as being in stock while the others are pre-order with an expected availability shown as “May 2023.” The Janeway figure is shown, but cannot be ordered and is listed as “canceled.” Clicking on the figure brings customers to an additional page that informs them that the item remains on the website for “informational purposes.” The website also states “The manufacturer has informed Entertainment Earth that the item has been canceled and was never manufactured.”

The publicly-available Playmates website for its Star Trek toy line shows the Janeway figure and lists it as “coming soon.” However, this is the same designation that appears for the other figures in the line. Stay tuned to DSTN for further information and developments.
