JANUARY 18, 2022 - Paramount+ has dropped new preview pics from this week’s episode of Star Trek: Prodigy, titled “Time Amok.” The title may pay homage to the classic Star Trek: The Original Series episode “Amok Time,” an episode which expanded the mythos of Mr. Spock and the planet Vulcan, but the official logline for Prodigy’s eighth episode hints at another favorite Trek plot point—the dreaded “temporal anomaly”:

When the U.S.S. Protostar is fractured in time by an anomaly, Hologram Janeway must synchronize the disjointed crew and save their ship before it destructs.

The preview pictures reveal little about how the episode unfolds, other than revealing the return of The Diviner, voiced by John Noble. As Prodigy continues to introduce younger viewers to familiar concepts and occurrences within the Star Trek universe, it seems only fitting that the crew of the USS Protostar would encounter a crisis similar to ones faced by the crews of other Starfleet ships in episodes like Star Trek: Voyager’s “Shattered” and Star Trek: The Next Generation’s “Timescape.” Thankfully, Hologram Janeway has some (virtual) experience in such things.

“Time Amok” drops Thursday on Paramount+. You can also go there to catch up on Star Trek: Prodigy’s first seven episodes, streaming now.
