JUNE 15, 2023 - Star Trek The Next Generation is where Jonathan Frakes started playing Commander William Riker, who was the First Officer “Number One” for Captain Jean-Luc Picard. That experience gave him insight into the relationship between Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Captain Christopher Pike and his FIrst Officer, Commander ``Number One” Una Chin - Riley.

Jonathan Frakes' knowledge also comes from directing multiple episodes of Star Trek Discovery, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and the new crossover between Star Trek: Lower Decks and SNW! Not only that, he recurred his role as William Riker in Star Trek: Picard!

A recent interview with Rebecca Romijn (Commander Chin-Riley), sheds some light on how Frakes’ knowledge and experience helped to shape the relationship between Captain Pike and his “Number One.”

"I can only speak to us in our relationship, but I think Anson and I have agreed that our friendship goes back to Starfleet Academy days,” Romijn revealed before commenting on her fond memories of Frakes. “I have very vivid memories of Jonathan Frakes, again, being on set, saying, 'Old friends, old friends,' and he says that at the beginning of every take and it's just such a nice way to approach every scene."

Paramount+ is giving Star Trek fans new and exciting ways to indulge in Star Trek Lower Decks.
