JUNE 16, 2023 – Even amongst the mountains and grizzlies and elk (oh, my), Star Trek gets attention and garners awards. Like last week, at the 44th Banff World Media Festival, in Banff, Alberta in the Canadian Rockies, where the Banff Rockie Awards are distributed among worthy international creators of television and digital content.

Variety noted that one of those awards, the Buffalo Rock Award, was bestowed upon Star Trek for its legacy in TV programming. Accepting on behalf of the franchise, according to the festival’s website, were Ethan Peck and Celia Rose Gooding, Spock and Uhura from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Previous Star Trek alumni to have received awards at the festival include LeVar Burton (2016 A+E Inclusion Award), William Shatner (1994 Award of Excellence and 2010 Career Achievement Award), and Kim Cattrall (2008 Canadian Award of Distinction).

Inaugurated in 1980 as the Banff World Television Festival, and in addition to hosting the awards, the festival also provides a global platform for industry members to explore current issues, challenges and trends.
