MARCH 30, 2022 - Earlier this month we got the chance to catch up with Captain Christopher Pike in a trailer for the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. When he gets back to the Enterprise, two of his crew members are going to be Cadet Nyota Uhura and Lieutenant La’An Noonien-Singh. Now the cadet and linguist, portrayed by Celia R. Gooding, and the Chief of Security, portrayed by Christina Chong, have their own introductory teasers, which dropped yesterday on Twitter from Star Trek on Paramount+.

In the first of what appears to be a series of teasers focused on crew members of Pike’s Enterprise, the captain welcomes Uhura aboard. She soon impresses him with the fact that she speaks 37 languages – which apparently do not include the one spoken by the alien she and her fellow landing party members find themselves facing down with a glitchy Universal Translator.

Amidst the space battles and aliens, though, Spock is already recognizing her abilities while she sees an indeterminate future for herself … as we see her glancing toward the Enterprise’s communications station as the teaser fades out.

The tweet for Noonien-Singh says she isn’t just chief of security, she’s a survivor. In fact, she says in the teaser, “When I was a kid, I was the only one to survive.” And in a rapid-fire succession of scenes, she is piloting a shuttlecraft through an apparent asteroid field, fighting, being scanned, and mind melding with Spock.

As we count down to the series premiere, check out the teasers for Cadet Nyota Uhura and Lieutenant La’An Noonien-Singh. They and their shipmates board on May 5, when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds launches, on Paramount+.
