Star Trek: Discovery to air internationally on Netflix from October 16th, 2020

Star Trek: Discovery premieres internationally on Netflix on October 16th, 2020

Star Trek: Discovery season three is headed for an international launch on Netflix on October 16th.

The international launch was mentioned briefly during the Star Trek Day event on September 8th, according to a piece from TrekMovie.com (with assistance from Trek Argentina and TrekZone Australia), but it was just last Friday that Netflix finally began promoting the show in an official fashion.

Having Star Trek: Discovery season three air on Netflix internationally is consistent with how CBS All Access has done it in prior seasons; both season one and season two are still available to stream on the platform. However, the promotional push that started on Friday appears to be the first official announcement from Netflix itself.

The news comes amid a growing promotional push for Star Trek: Discovery as Star Trek: Lower Decks nears the end of its first season. While Lower Decks has just three episodes left, Discovery is ramping up. Season one is making its terrestrial broadcast debut this Thursday, September 24th, we’ll see more of the show at the New York Comic Con Star Trek Universe panel on October 8th, and of course, season three goes live on October 15th. The October 16th international premiere means that international audiences will have to wait a day after the U.S. premiere, but again, that’s consistent with prior years.

TrekMovie notes that while this is good news for international Discovery fans, Lower Decks fans may be disappointed by the news, as there’s still no word about an international release for that show.
