OCTOBER 28, 2021 - The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films handed out their annual Saturn Awards for excellence in genre productions on Tuesday, and the Star Trek franchise was well represented with three awards, two for Star Trek: Discovery and one for Star Trek: Picard, Deadline.com reports.

Discovery won the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Television Series for the third straight year, and for the first year in which streaming and network shows were considered in the same category. Executive Producer Michelle Paradise was on hand to accept the award, shared via the official Saturn Awards Twitter feed.

Discovery actor Doug Jones also took home the award for Best Supporting Actor on television for his performance as Saru. Jones later shared his excitement on Twitter, saying, “Thank you @SaturnAwards for blessing me with another statuette for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series, AND for blessing our show @startrek Discovery with Best Science Fiction Series.”

Patrick Stewart landed the Star Trek trifecta with his award as Best Actor on Television for Star Trek: Picard. It was his third Saturn Award overall, having won as Picard in 1990 for Star Trek: The Next Generation and also for his portrayal of Charles Xavier in the 2017 film Logan.

The Star Trek franchise garnered seven nominations in all for 2021, as Picard’s Isa Briones and Jeri Ryan, and Discovery’s Sonequa Martin-Green joined Jones and Stewart in that shared honor. Star Trek: Picard was also nominated for Best Science Fiction Series, but yielded that title to its older sibling Discovery.
