OCTOBER 28, 2021 - It seems like a longer time than it really has been, but do you remember Star Trek: Lower Decks? The show that ended its second season just two weeks ago? Well, it turns out Lower Decks showrunner Mike McMahan has been dropping hints about what is in store for season three.

TrekMovie summed up several conversations that McMahan had with various outlets, in which he detailed to a degree, and perhaps even spoiled, some of the storylines coming up for our heroes. We’ll leave the spoilery bits for you to discover as you will, but we are going to see some relationships develop, cliffhangers resolved, and backstories filled in.

McMahan said, “… as we start up [season three] there’s going to be some interesting cameos, some fun callbacks, but we’re also starting to mix in cameos and callbacks to our own episodes a little bit more. We’ve seen a lot of Mariner and Boimler and then Tendi and Rutherford, and we’ve seen them mixed up a bit. Season three we get to see them start their own paths a little bit more while still being friends.”

What’s going on with the Pakleds, Klingons, and Captain Freeman? The end of season two didn’t finish with “To be continued…” for nothing, according to McMahan, who said, “Well, ‘wej Duj’ didn’t end...and I don’t want people to wait until next season to know the story’s not over[.] So, the promise of the stuff they’re going to be seeing in season three is why the end on this.”

We will also see T’Lyn the “emotional” Vulcan again, even more of Dr. T’Ana being Dr. T’Ana, something something Rutherford’s implant, and Mariner in a new relationship.

Season three of Lower Decks is in production now, with no premiere date yet, but we will let you know when that detail is revealed.
