Star Trek items fetch top dollar at Icons & Idols: Hollywood by Julien’s Auctions

Some rare Star Trek memorabilia fetched a pretty penny at this week’s Icons & Idols: Hollywood auction, put on by Julien’s Auctions. The auction, which was held on Monday, featured over 400 items from Hollywood’s greatest productions, both vintage and modern.

A piece from Broadway World yesterday ran down some of the auctions most notable results. The auction’s big winner was a screen-word cape worn by Christopher Reeve in his iconic Superman role in 1978’s Superman. The cape sold for an astonishing $193,750, setting a new world record for a superhero cape sold at auction.

It wasn’t just superheroes represented at the auction, though. Earlier this month, I told you about the auction’s details, which included “one of the most impressive collections of costumes, props, memorabilia and models from the Star Trek TV and film franchise to ever to come to auction, including some of the finest offerings from the official CBS and Paramount Studios auction in 2006, with a total of nearly 50 lots.” On the day, the most expensive Star Trek lot ended up being Captain Picard’s Starfleet dress uniform worn in The Next Generation. It sold for a grand total of $28,800. Other lots that performed well included Deanna Troi’s jumpsuit from the first season of TNG, which fetched $10,240; Worf’s Klingon baldric, which fetched $12,800; and one of Seven of Nine’s uniforms from Voyager, which also fetched $12,800. All items were screen worn by the characters’ principal actors.

Other highlights from the auction included Dan Aykroyd’s jumpsuit from Ghostbusters II for $32,000; a limited 40th anniversary Playboy Stratocaster signed by Hugh Hefner for $19,200; and two oil paintings by Frank Sinatra at $75,000 and $21,250.
