The Paramount+ / Showtime Merger Is Coming Next Month

MAY 29, 2023 – Streaming services and their parent companies are facing their challenges these days, and Paramount is no exception. Merging services is one way that the content carriers are seeking efficiencies; HBO Max and Discovery+ are combining, for example, and Disney+ will be adding Hulu content in the near future. As we let you know back in February, merger is also on the horizon for the home of Star Trek, Paramount+.

At that point there was no reported date for the merger, but CNBC reported last week that Paramount Global will be combining Paramount+ with its Showtime app as of June 27. (The Showtime network is owned by Paramount Media Networks and operated by Paramount Streaming. Both are parented by Paramount Global.)

While the new Paramount+ with Showtime will be effective next month, the standalone Showtime app will be gone by the end of the year. The Showtime television network will also feature content from Paramount+ once the integration is completed.

Pricing will increase as well, to $11.99 a month for Paramount+ with Showtime and to $5.99 for Paramount+ alone.
