The premiere of The Orville season 3 has been delayed to June 2022

FEBRUARY 7, 2022 - It’s a bit of a “good news, bad news” day for fans of the Trek-alike series The Orville. Late last week, Hulu released a new trailer and title sequence for the long-awaited third season! While that is definitely good news, The Orville: New Horizons will premiere on June 2nd, nearly three months later than originally planned.
The trailer is a nonstop, heart-pounding experience! Taking the audience through the nitty-gritty of an epic space battle, the crew of the Orville once again find themselves face to face with a familiar enemy. The premise for the third season is not all that dissimilar to that of Star Trek: Discovery. New Horizons is set 400 years in the future, but no matter when you are, the mission must continue, and personal relationships will continue to evolve.
Like most productions, production on the third season of The Orville came to a halt during the height of the coronavirus pandemic in 2021. After filming wrapped in August, a premiere date was scheduled for March of this year. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. Along with the release of the New Horizons trailer, series creator Seth MacFarlane took to social media to apologize to fans for the additional delay.
Posting to Twitter, MacFarlane said, “To all the Orville fans: Thanks for being so patient with us as we’ve navigated the production challenges resulting from the ongoing covid-19 pandemic. As occasionally happens, our show has been repositioned amidst the ever-changing television schedule landscape, which means that the wait will be just a bit longer, and we’re now preparing for a June 2nd launch on Hulu. We’ve always promised you a television experience that will make it worth the wait, and we’re not wavering on that. We understand the frustration you’re feeling over more delays, so we want to give you a little taste of what’s to come. Here’s a sneak peek at the first few minutes of our season opener, and our new main title!”
The first two seasons of The Orville are available to stream now on Hulu. The Orville: New Horizons premieres June 2, 2022 on Hulu.
