The Wand Company’s Star Trek Bluetooth Communicator

OCTOBER 21, 2021 - For many Star Trek fans of a certain age, the definitive playtime posture for recreating your favorite show involved a flick of the wrist and saying, “Kirk to Enterprise.” Unfortunately, no toy or taped-together cardboard reproduction was able to capture the feel of a real TOS communicator, but one could dream.

Those dreams finally came true in 2015 when The Wand Company, makers of highly detailed replicas of fantasy and sci-fi props, released their Bluetooth Communicator. It captured with uncanny accuracy the look, feel, and sounds of the prop used by William Shatner and the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series, but was only produced for a limited time. It’s been difficult to find ever since.

Until now.

The Star Trek Shop is now taking pre-orders for a special Star Trek 55th Anniversary Limited Edition of the Wand Company Bluetooth Communicator, releasing in November. According to the listing, the communicator is identical to the 2015 edition and is notable for features like:

  • Highly accurate: Created from 3D scans of the original hero prop with 3D texture mapping to replicate hero prop surface finish

  • Fully working Bluetooth handset: Easy to pair with any Bluetooth compatible mobile phone – authentic flip-to-answer action.

  • Immersive play features: Authentic voices and sound FX from the Star Trek universe.

The communicator sells for $179.99 and is scheduled to begin shipping on November 17th. This is your chance to own what The Trek Collective refers to as, “[…] probably the best reproduction of that prop ever offered.” Even better, it will be followed up in 2022 by a tricorder made to the same exacting standards.

No word if The Wand Company will re-issue their popular phaser remote control, but once again, one can dream.
