OCTOBER 21, 2021 - With apologies to my colleague T. Rick Jones for opening with trivia, but can you name an actor who has both voiced an animated Batman and played Captain Christopher Pike on screen? I mean apart from the one in today’s headline.

If you said Bruce Greenwood, you would be correct, and Anson Mount says he’s OK with not being the first actor to have those two gigs on his résumé. Mount spoke this week with SYFY WIRE about voicing the Dark Knight in the new film from the DC Animated Universe, Injustice, based on the video game franchise. Batman must battle a “tyrannical Superman who’s been driven mad by tragic circumstances.”

Mount said about preparing for his first time voicing Batman, which he actually completed two years ago, “I think I, I imagined the weight of that uniform, or I guess I should say disguise, and I did a couple of vocal tricks to help me get to the register I wanted, and then I showed Wes (voice director Wes Gleason) what I was doing and he liked it and we just recorded it.“

In addition to his enthusiasm for sitting in Captain Pike’s chair, Mount also indicated he would like to do Batman again, saying, “It was a fun process and obviously the material's great. I mean, I grew up on this stuff, so yeah. As I did with Star Trek, I...I don't know what I did to have the universe shine upon me like it has. But I'm definitely grateful for the opportunities.”

Injustice is available in various video formats from Amazon.com.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is expected to premiere in 2022, but you can see Anson Mount as Christopher Pike in season two of Star Trek: Discovery, streaming now on Paramount+.
