APRIL 5, 2021 - First Contact Day was already full of HUGE Star Trek news...but it got even bigger when Paramount+ dropped a brand new trailer for the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery season four.

The new season went into production last November, at Toronto’s Pinewood Studios, and back in February, Paramount+ announced that it would be one of three new series of Star Trek coming to the fledgling service in 2021. Now, we can get a first look at how the season is coming along, and what we might be able to expect from the Discovery crew in the next installment.

The trailer, which Paramount+ calls a “teaser”, is a full minute and a half long, so there’s plenty to chew on, but you’ll have to work hard to tease out a coherent plot. Probably the biggest idea is that there’s some kind of gravitational anomaly that’s wreaking havoc both inside the Federation and out, but it’s hard to say whether it will be a seasonal theme, or just part of the plot. Certainly, there’s a throughline in the trailer of facing adversity as a team; the newly-captained Burnham says it herself: “There’s only one way to confront the unknown. Together.”

Some other notable moments from the trailer: Cleveland “Book” Booker having a mind meld on Ni’Var; Burnham striding purposefully down a hallway in a decidedly Tron-looking suit; explosions, recoveries from explosions; brand-new color blocked uniforms; a white (?) Cardassian; and plenty of Kelpiens.

Oh yeah, and Grudge is back.

At the end of the trailer, they reiterate once again that the new season is coming in 2021. To watch the whole thing for yourself - and all the other panels and videos from First Contact Day - head to the Paramount+ channel on YouTube.
